About Holistic HK PDF Print E-mail

Holistic HK was started in October 2001. It arose out my desire to continue a job I had loved – editing the magazine New Age News which I did in between 1997 -1999. I had left that job to set up my own publishing company Pilgrims Guides but missed my magazine networking fun. The beauty of online publishing compared to printed especially in a dynamic city like Hong Kong is that it can adapt immediately and nothing is ‘set in print’ for ever.

Within a year of setting up the South China Morning Post asked me to write a weekly column ‘Holistics’ which was a weekly resource for HK readers for 4 years.

Holistic HK has always strived to provide a mixture of alternative resources and event listings for spiritual and health courses. Additionally it has wanted to inspire readers with cutting edge articles about ecological, health and spiritual topics. You’ll also find some niche articles unique globally, about Hong Kong’s spiritual scene obviously which is surprisingly rich, but also sections like Eco-village news and Interfaith Corner. One of my favourite sections is ‘Charity of the month’ which highlights some of the good work being done in Hong Kong and Asia.

On occasion Holistic HK has also hosted events – the Holistic Events section features them, and they usually have a spiritual or eco-village origin.

It has been a monthly magazine from the beginning with completely new content.

Designwise it is now in its 4th incarnation. Initially it was a word newsletter emailed out, then a website which was uploaded by me in Dreamweaver. In January 2004 my good friend Sleiman Matar joined and professionalized the design features into a beautiful html look. In August 2007, Holistic Hong Kong got a a new, current look and was transferred to Joomla CMS, thus enhancing it with further functionality and new groovy features. Expect further new changes on a monthly basis.

You are welcomed to make the magazine your own, your comments, thoughts and inspirations are invited.

Blessings,

Peter Lloyd
