Dear Friends
Barack Obama's victory today has moved me and I feel tears of joy and suffering.
Walking the dogs first thing this morning and then sitting in meditation, it felt as if the whole planet had gone still, pausing and contemplating the meaning of this victory. |

What is that elusive something that we are always seeking but somehow never find? Is it happiness? Well, no, not really. If we think about it, much of what has brought us happiness in the past has also caused us pain through its loss or change. And whatever is making us happy is continually under threat of possible loss or change. So, what do you think will make you happy? Forever?

“My life is a process of refinement, a work in progress,” says Millman, a former world trampoline champion and gymnast who transformed his life and many others when he wrote his first book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior. In that book, readers meet ‘Socrates,’ a wise old warrior who once told Millman, “Poets practice poetry, athletes practice athletics, musicians practice music; Peaceful Warriors practice everything - breathing, standing, walking, speaking, eating – practicing balance in each moment.” Millman believes a large part of his role as a teacher is to "show people how to keep their head in the clouds but their feet on the ground.” |

However considerate – or not – we are towards our bodies, virtually everyone these days is aware of the damage caused by toxins. They are in what we eat and are often unavoidable – sugars, salt, fats, and food additives; there are harmful chemicals in the air we breathe and often in the water we drink.
There is also the ever-worsening pollution of the environment by electrical and magnetic fields (EMFs) that disturb the natural functioning of the body’s systems. |

There are four main paths of yoga. The first is Karma yoga (the yoga of action) which purifies the heart by teaching you how to detach yourself from the fruits of your action. The second is Bhakti yoga (the yoga of devotion) which appeals to those of an emotional nature. Those who follow this path sees god as the embodiment of love. They are mainly motivated by the power of love. The third, Jnana yoga (the yoga of knowledge) is the difficult path. Those who follow this path must have thorough knowledge of Vedas, Vedanta and many difficult philosophies. And finally Raja yoga, the science of physical and mental control. It gives a comprehensive method to transform our physical and mental energy into spiritual energy.

When you explore a city, it helps to have a ‘neighbourhood worm’ at your side. It is the ‘day tau chungs’, as they are called in Cantonese, who know every nook and cranny of the back streets and can tell you exactly where the best dumplings are. They can turn a superficial tour into a unique adventure – resonant with faces, stories and meaning.
