Restoring the Earth: the essential work of the 21st century. By Alan Watson Featherstone.
On Tuesday, 10 April 2007 7.30pm. Lecture room NOO3, PolyU, TST., Kowloon

Alan Watson Featherstone speaks about his new project - Restoring the Earth, which is promoting the restoration of the planet's degraded ecosystems, as the most important task in the 21st century.

The current environmental degradation poses a growing threat to the well-being and survival of an estimated 5 million species on the planet. The scope and magnitude of the work required to counter this necessitates long-term thinking and a whole series of projects, both small-scale, locally based ones and internationally co-ordinated initiatives. Indeed, the restoration of the Earth will need to become the first shared task to draw forth the collective creativity, resources, concern and participation of all humanity. In this lecture, illustrated with his own award-winning photography, he speaks on this great task.

During his 15 years at the Findhorn Foundation, Alan has been in the forefront of its work with nature, organising a major international conference on the world's ecological crisis, One Earth: A Call to Action in 1986. Following this, he founded the Trees for Life charity which is working to restore the Caledonian Forest to a large area in the Highlands of Scotland. Trees for Life has received a series of awards, including the UK Conservation Project of the Year Award in 1991, and the Millennium Marque Award for environmental excellence in 2000. In 2001, Alan received the prestigious Schumacher Award in recognition of 'his inspirational and practical work in conserving and restoring degraded ecosystems'. Alan has helped provide the inspiration for other ecological restoration projects worldwide, including for the endangered Parana pine forests in Brazil and Tierra del Fuego in Chile.

Awakening: an evening with Miranda.
Sept 14 Poly U, Holistic Lecture Series, 7.30pm – 9pm, $100.

Within each human being lie reservoirs of limitless peace, profound connection to the whole of life and a love that can fill our heart. Yet commonly we busy ourselves in trying to control life to manifest our desires and keep away our fears. This hides the simple fact that what we really want is so close at hand - happiness, peace and love is our true nature. Experiencing this is simpler than you think.

Miranda offers you a space to dive beyond your personal story of stress into the peace of your true nature, not as a concept or an idea but as direct experience. Through the practice of softening and surrender, you are freed to deeply relax and be yourself, free of fearful thoughts and habits. Grounded in a deeper identity, you are able to address the challenges of life with greater resource and intelligence. You can live from your deepest Truth.

Miranda is author of ‘Boundless Love', founder of the Interfaith Seminary in London, and has been working with people all over the world for over sixteen years. She integrates Self-Inquiry, Spiritual Psychology and a depth of Presence that arises out of her own awakening.
